A Day in the Life of a Kids Camp Camper at Allaso Ranch

Category:

Summer Camp

You've registered your child for Kids Camp at Allaso Ranch. The bags are packed (check out our Parent Manual if you're still working on that list), the health form is submitted, and drop-off day is approaching. But you're still wondering: What actually happens during the week?

Here's a look at what a typical day looks like for a 2nd–5th grader at Allaso Ranch — from the moment they wake up to the moment their head hits the pillow.

Sunday: Arrival Day

Camp begins on Sunday afternoon. Depending on your child's assigned village, you'll arrive between 3:30–5:00 PM.

After check-in, your camper will meet their trainers (that's what we call our counselors) and cabin mates. Then it's off to the waterpark for a swim skills assessment — part of how we keep every camper fun and safe all week (please arrive wearing their swimsuit—no need to change first). From there, they'll settle into their bunk and start making friends.

The first evening sets the tone for the whole week: dinner in the dining hall, a welcome rally, and the first Camp at Night session — a high-energy gathering with worship, games, and a Bible lesson that gives campers a taste of what's ahead.

By 9:30 PM, it's Reflections and lights out. Day one is done — and the adventure has just begun.

Monday–Thursday: The Heart of Camp

Every day follows a rhythm designed to balance adventure, rest, connection, and Christ-centered growth.

8:30 AM — Breakfast

The day starts in the dining hall with a hearty breakfast served family-style. Campers sit with their cabin and trainers. And yes, there's a tradition: when the Allaso Ranch staff wheels out the food, "Eye of the Tiger" blasts through the speakers. Campers stand on their chairs and do a dance. It's silly. It's loud. Your kid will come home doing it at the dinner table.

9:00 AM — Devotional Time

After breakfast, campers gather with their cabin for morning devotions — a short time to connect with God, read Scripture, and pray together. It's a quieter moment before the day picks up speed.

9:30 AM — Challenge Time

Campers are divided into teams by color, and Challenge Time is when those teams compete. Think relay races, group games, and friendly (okay, sometimes intense) competition. It's one of the highlights of the day and builds camaraderie fast.

10:15 AM – 12:30 PM — Activities (Rotations 1 & 2)

Now the adventure begins. Campers rotate through five one-hour activity blocks throughout the day. In the morning, they'll tackle two of them. Activities include:

  • Zip Lines — Soar 60 feet above the ground
  • Giant Swing — Not for the faint of heart
  • Wibit — Obstacle course in the Allaso Lake
  • Equestrian Center — Saddle up for horseback riding
  • Archery Tag — Ready, aim, fire
  • Waterpark — Lazy river, water slides, splash pool, and water volleyball
  • Canoes & Kayaks — Explore Allaso Ranch Lake
  • Sports Fields — Basketball, kickball, soccer, pickleball, and more

By the end of the week, every camper has the chance to try everything and has been to the waterpark at least once a day.

12:30 PM — Lunch

Back to the dining hall for lunch. More family-style meals with cabin mates. And yes, more "Eye of the Tiger."

1:00 PM — Bible Study

After lunch, campers slow down for Bible Study with their cabin. This is where trainers get to go deeper with their group — discussing what they're learning, answering questions, and helping kids apply it to their lives.

1:45 PM — Back on Bunk

A short rest period. Campers stay in their cabins, recharge, and get ready for the afternoon. (Trainers appreciate this time too.)

2:30 – 5:45 PM — Activities (Rotations 3, 4 & 5) + Clean-Up

The afternoon is packed with three more activity rotations. By the end of the day, kids are sunscreened, sweaty, and smiling. Around 5:45 PM, it's time to clean up and get ready for dinner.

6:30 PM — Dinner

Another meal in the dining hall. By now, your child knows the songs, knows the cheers, and is standing on their chair before the music even starts.

7:00 PM — Dessert on Deck

After dinner, campers head to the Grand Deck overlooking Allaso Ranch Lake for dessert. It's a sweet pause — literally — before the evening program begins.

7:30 PM — Camp at Night

This is the heartbeat of Kids Camp.

Camp at Night is a high-energy gathering in the auditorium with worship designed for kids, fun games, and an engaging Bible lesson. It's loud, it's joyful, and it's where many campers encounter Jesus in a real way for the first time.

Throughout the week, the teaching builds toward an invitation: an opportunity for kids to begin a relationship with Jesus. On Thursday, there's a special Baptism Class for kids who've made that decision.

8:30 PM — Evening Activities

After Camp at Night, there's time for more fun—cabin hangouts, swim party, a chance to meet the week's Bible Study characters, group games, or low-key activities before bed.

9:30 PM — Reflections / Lights Out

The day ends where it began: with the cabin. Trainers lead a short time of reflection—processing the day, praying together, and settling in for the night. Lights go out at 9:30 PM.

(Okay, sometimes there's whispering. But eventually, sleep wins.)

Friday: Departure Day

The last day is bittersweet.

8:30 AM — Breakfast & Devotional Time

One more breakfast. One more "Eye of the Tiger."

9:30 AM — Pack-Up Cabins

Campers pack their bags (hopefully with everything labeled and accounted for) and say goodbye to their bunkmates.

10:45 AM — Trainer Relay

A final team activity—this time with the trainers competing while campers cheer them on.

11:30 AM — Lunch

The last meal together.

12:00 PM — Cabin Time

Final goodbyes, exchanging info with new friends, and preparing to head to the worship center.

1:00 PM — Parent Program

Parents arrive for a short program (about 30 minutes) celebrating the week. You'll hear stories, see highlights, and get a glimpse of what your child experienced.

After the program, it's time to head home—with a tired, happy kid who won't stop talking about camp for weeks.

What Your Child Will Come Home With

  • A newfound independence and confidence
  • Stories about zip lines, horses, and late-night cabin conversations
  • New friends (and maybe a request to sign up again next year)
  • A Christ-centered foundation that will stick with them
